ISO 21001: frequently asked questions

Who can apply for ISO 21001?

Any organisation that provides education or training — schools, colleges, universities, vocational and corporate training providers, coaching institutes and e-learning providers.

Is ISO 21001 the same as ISO 9001 for schools?

No. ISO 21001 is a separate standard written for educational organisations. It follows the same structure as ISO 9001 but adds education-specific requirements, such as learner focus and special needs.

Who issues the ISO 21001 certificate?

Certificates are issued by an independent certification body after its own stage 1 and stage 2 audits. How long is ISO 21001 certification valid?

Accredited management system certificates are normally valid for three years, with surveillance audits by the certification body at least once a year and a recertification audit before expiry.

Cost depends mainly on the number of employees and sites, the scope and complexity of your activities, how much of the system already exists, and the certification body's audit days.
