Frequently Asked Questions — ZED

What is ZED Certification and who runs it?
ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect) Certification is a Government of India initiative run by the Quality Council of India (QCI) under the Ministry of MSME. It promotes quality culture and sustainable manufacturing among Indian MSMEs.
Is ZED Certification free for MSMEs?
Registration on the ZED Portal is free. There are assessment and certification fees, but the Government of India provides substantial subsidies of 50–80% on certification costs depending on the MSME category.
How long does ZED Certification take?
The ZED certification process typically takes 2–4 months from registration to certificate issuance. Certsure helps you prepare evidence and close gaps so the assessment goes smoothly.
How is ZED different from ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management applicable to all organizations globally. ZED is a Government of India initiative specifically for Indian MSMEs covering quality, technology, environment, and sustainability. Both complement each other — many MSMEs obtain both for maximum benefit.
What is the validity of ZED Certification?
ZED Certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance. A re-assessment is required for renewal. MSMEs are encouraged to upgrade to a higher level during the renewal cycle.
